Choujin X chapter 34.4 from Sui Ishida is reviving a moment that he first created in the Tokyo Ghoul manga and then rewrote in Tokyo Ghoul √A. Warning: Spoilers for Choujin X chapter 34.4Mangaka Sui Ishida is repeating the controversial decisions he made with Ken Kaneki in both the Tokyo Ghoul manga and the original story he wrote for the anime's second season, Tokyo Ghoul √A, in his new series Choujin X . In chapter 34.4 of Choujin X by Sui Ishida, the hero Tokio reveals to his teammates that he is thinking of leaving Yamato Mori, an organization that nurtures good Choujin. This revelation comes after Yamato Mori defeats one of their major enemies. While this moment is bound to leave some questions for fans, it has some eerie echoes of a similar decision made by Ken back in Tokyo Ghoul. Choujin X is Mirroring Ken's Decision to Leave Anteiku In the Tokyo Ghoul universe, Ken Kaneki also leaves his version of Yamato Mori called Anteiku, a peaceful shelter that helps other ghouls in need, after getting tortured by the extremist ghoul organization Aogiri Tree. Originally, Sui Ishida wrote it so that Kaneki just created his own special group of loyal followers to more freely seek the answers he desperately wanted to know. But in the second season of the anime, Tokyo Ghoul √A, Ishida rewrote how Kaneki left, among other changes to the Tokyo Ghoul manga. In √A, Kaneki actually joins the very group that mutilated him, and for a while, seemed as though getting tortured warped his brain enough that he did so on purpose. But, of course, Kaneki was still very much against Aogiri. √A's shocking change might have created a stronger theme when compared to how Kaneki eventually joined another enemy organization in Tokyo Ghoul :re, but now in Choujin X, Tokio finds himself at a similar crossroads as both versions of Kaneki did. Although Tokio never gets tortured in Choujin X, the setup of the event in question did reinvent Kaneki's capture in Tokyo Ghoul . But since Choujin X hasn't been adapted yet, Ishida can only have Tokio leave his "Anteiku" once, unless Tokio later comes back and then leaves again. The only question now is why Tokio would want to leave. Choujin X Gives Tokio a Better Reason Than Ken Had Only one possible theory for why Tokio left makes sense. The life-altering event in Choujin X happened because a terrifying Choujin called "The Mother" had a premonition that a Beast Choujin who received her powers would be able to stop a calamity that she had also foreseen. As a Beast Choujin, Tokio was the likely savior. Interestingly, Tokio might have listened to her if his companion Ely didn't figure out that The Mother had killed other Choujins whom she thought were the savior. Could Tokio be leaving to return to The Mother? Unfortunately, there's another variable in play. Tokio had a vision implying that he would destroy Yamato Mori. This development would have compelled Tokio not to join The Mother on his own without Ely's revelation. So, it's very likely that Tokio is just leaving because he sees himself as a threat to Choujin X 's version of Tokyo Ghoul's Anteiku and hopes to seclude himself in a way to protect everyone. Although there are already many differences between Kaneki and Tokio's decisions to leave, Tokio's feels much more selfless than Kaneki's two actions in the manga and Tokyo Ghoul √A.
