The Piper, or Nosey ram, is a medium-sized mammal belonging to the pig family. It is widespread in Africa.

One of the most notable features of this animal are its long tusks, which extend in a trunk of front teeth and can reach a length of up to 60 cm. The Trumpettooth Pig reaches a height at the shoulders of 60 to 70 cm and weighs from 30 to 105 kg.

Among pig species, the Trumpettooth Pig is well distinguished by its coloring: the body is dominated by a light brown color, while the head, neck and legs are black, sometimes with white stripes.

In their natural habitat, Trumpettooth pigs prefer damp wooded areas, rarely occurring in the savanna zone. Their diet consists of roots, marsh plants, fruits, and sometimes insects and small animals.

Pipefish pigs, like many other animal species, are currently suffering from habitat loss, human displacement, and hunting. They are listed in the International Red List and are protected.
