Allowing Captive Cats Choices

Where is Lovey Bobcat? When the cats don’t feel like coming out they have expert skills for ignoring keepers. Cats are such funny adorable creatures. I love that Big cat Rescue is a sanctuary that puts the animals' needs and feelings first. The animals are given choices and places to hide if they don't feel like being seen.

In captive life, the cats have so few choices. People choose their space, what, how much, and when they eat, what treats and toys they have etc.

At Big Cat Rescue we try to give the cats various things they can control, and various choices. Examples are:

The cats have multiple sections to their enclosure and each section has things like clearings, sunny areas, shady areas, places to be up high, places to hide, etc. The cats have more than one den and each den is a little different so they can choose which one they want to use.

Being able to make some choices for themselves is important for cats that cannot go free.
