The largest ships in the world are known as supertankers or ultra-large crude carriers (ULCCs). These massive vessels are used to transport large quantities of oil and other liquid cargo across the oceans. They can be as long as 1,500 feet (457 meters) and have a displacement of over half a million metric tons. The largest supertanker in the world is the Knock Nevis, which was in service from 1979 to 2009 and had a deadweight tonnage of 564,763 DWT. Another example is Prelude FLNG, one of the largest floating structure ever built, it's used for natural gas production and is 488 meters long.
