Happy 6th Nintendo Switch Birthday! | 6 Great Things About the Switch

Today marks the 6th birthday of the launch of the Nintendo Switch. This is a console that I have had since day one and continue to enjoy spending time with each and every time I pick it up. But what are my six favorite things on the 6th birthday that I enjoy about the Switch the most?

Different ways to play:
When the Nintendo Switch originally launched, the cool thing was the ability to play console quality games connected to a TV or on the go. Since that original launch, Nintendo has followed up the Nintendo Switch with both the Switch Lite and Switch OLED editions. The Switch Lite is optimized for handheld gaming usage, smaller, more compact, featuring a proper d-pad. The Switch OLED enhances the display, improves the audio, significantly updates the kickstand, and more.

The library:
One of the best things about the Nintendo Switch is the number and quality of games you can play on it. Whether we are talking about game specifically designed for the Switch or games from previous generations which are now available to play on the systems, the breath of titles available is huge. They stumbled out of the gate and there are still some gaping holes in their offerings, but you can play a lot of terrific titles and franchises through the Nintendo Switch.

Console quality on the go:
When rumors of a hybrid Nintendo console were swirling, people were having a hard time trying to guess what that would mean. Once we saw it for the first time it became obvious. The dock allows you to connect the Nintendo Switch or Switch OLED to your television, and you can also take it on the go in handheld mode to play practically anywhere. While I am not as big of a handheld user as I used to be, being able to take great games with you anywhere is a definite advantage of the system. Especially when you compare it to things like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X which are absolutely mammoth.

First party titles:
I know we are still waiting on Metroid Prime 4, but if you look at the rest of the library the Nintendo Switch has definitely delivered first party games. Mario Odyssey is a masterpiece. Zelda Breath of the Wild is getting ready to have its sequel released. We even saw franchises that have gone to other developers return to Nintendo platforms. Who would have ever thought that we would have access to Banjo-Kazooie on a Nintendo console again? Or GoldenEye for that matter?

Access movies and TV:
If you have a Google Play account, you can actually access your purchases through the YouTube app on the Switch. This means that you can view and stream your purchases directly to your system. While not as convenient as a dedicated app, this is a good workaround that will allow you to go ahead and watch content you already own.

Region free
While in the past Nintendo made it easy and hard to play games from anywhere around the world, they have never made it as easy as they have with the Nintendo Switch. The advertise the fact that you can play any game from any region on any model of the Nintendo Switch. That's pretty huge. That means if you are into collecting variants or if a certain game was not released in your region you now have a reasonable way to go ahead and acquire and play them.

These are just six of my favorite things about the Nintendo switch family of systems, what about you? What is your some of your favorite things about the Nintendo switch? Comment down below.
