How and Why credit cards are tracking guns + ammo

The truth is that everyone is being tracked if you don't live in a shack and live in the woods. Modern technology, such as smartphones, gather a scary amount of data.

The credit card companies said: hold me beer.

Discover will be the first credit card company to track purchases at gun stores. They claim that it will help law enforcement.... but how? There is zero way stated how this information will be shared -either legally or illegally- with law enforcement. Is this just a first step towards registration?
