Some solid evidence shows that training with light weights VS heavy weights leads to similar gains. Given, training with high intensity to failure or close, in both cases. From a practicality standpoint, I've heard many argue that training to complete failure with lighter weight in a higher rep range is not realistic as it is so uncomfortable and painful. Hop aboard the PAIN TRAIN and make some gains! It's also interesting to see that two of the main components of building muscle (mechanical tensions and metabolic stress) are each optimized with the different loads (heavy vs light). My thought is the best way to approach this is vary your training so that you do both - some heavy, low reps and some light, high reps.
