The motive or cause behind Abraham’s repeated lie is the same both times, Abraham was scared, he was afraid. Abraham lies because he is scared. One can easily be tough on Abraham, but who among us, who is honest, has not at times done a wrong thing more than once, even repeatedly?
Why did Abraham relapse? Well, all we know is he relapsed from Fear. And fear can drive man to do extreme things, usually extremely stupid things…extremely dangerous things.
Sarah was actually Abraham’s half sister, as we will see shortly. But as we will see later as well, Isaac would later engage in the same kind of deception having learned well from his father. Fathers have to realize their life is an influence on their sons especially.
But we do know that HaShem used visions in the OT to reveal HIS plan, to further HIS plan. Joseph would have divorced Mary when he found out she was pregnant, but GOD sent an angel to him in a dream.
