Have you ever broken your child’s spirit?
Their face drops, their shoulders droop.
One mom said that her daughter just looked at her blankly, no emotion, nothing. Just sitting there, looking so small and fragile, and trying not to cry.

I have broken my children’s spirits more times than I want to count. We’ve all gotten angry, frustrated, annoyed, felt like our child’s behavior was out of control, and we lost it. Screamed. Shouted. Threatened. Said something we didn’t mean to say. Maybe we did mean to say it because we were so upset.

We lose self-control. We speak to our children from our own past pain, from dissatisfaction with our lives, from expectations we may not have even expressed.

Our children do not yet have the discernment to know that Mommy doesn’t mean that or that Mommy is working through her own stuff.

We don’t realize that the weight of our words spoken to our children whether good or negative always comes back to them.

I am so excited to share this episode of the Renewed Mama Podcast with you. I had a conversation about all of this with Pastor Rene McIntyre who had me on her radio show called the Barefoot Preacher. Pastor Rene was the one who started our conversation with how we often break our children’s spirits when we let our words get out of control. I appreciated everything she shared.
