City of Eureka: Homelessness #1 Emergency-Fatal

The Eureka city council met On Tuesday February 28th to discuss the now acknowledged Homeless emergency. They did not do so Because of what has been Because of what has been Claim to see Claim to see For decades and longer. Like many things if the state did not 1st declare any emergency then there is in fact no emergency at all.

Though called local leadership It seems That just like the coordinated Simultaneous into the covid emergency, City and county government only follow within the restriction state Guidelines. Guidelines that in this situation literary cost Lives, A fact that was demonstrated just A-day prior with a homeless individual Dying from exposure at a Eureka bus stop.

The recently deceased had a family member that called in remotely to the meeting. His Aunt Was Rightfully Consumed with sadness And full of questions as to how this has happened to her nephew. Her nephew that Had recently moved To Eureka From Southern Humboldt Based on advice that Eureka is where the services are that can help.

There were only two Actual homeless people that commented During the meeting. One of them an older gentleman Spoke of the struggles With stigma, basic acknowledgment and dignity surrounding being a homeless individual in this community.

The 2nd homeless individual was only 20, she spoke of the struggles of young people trying to go to college work a job and live out of a car if they're lucky enough to have a car. "The problem is tonight, the problem is last week. When will we see something done about this?"

Others spoke of Meetings that had occurred 6 or 10 years ago That were then Labeled under a guy's of ending homelessness by a date that had already come to pass. neglected.
