DOD Nuclear device carried by an Stratospheric balloon April 28, 1958 code name YUCCA

This is a DOD footage of the first detonation of the HARDTACK I series at Enewetak Atoll, performed on April 28, 1958 under code name YUCCA. The 1.7 kiloton nuclear device was detonated on the stratosphere, after the balloon -which departed from the deck of the USS BOXER aircraft carrier- reached float altitude of 86.000 feet.
