In this video, I'll show you how I make a sharpening station that is to be used over the kitchen sink like a "Bridge."

With this made, you'll be able to control your strokes precisely and effortless whether it be a chisel, kitchen knife or plane blade. The best part is that you won't make a big mess on your kitchen nor work bench because you are doing the sharpening on top of your kitchen sink and the overflowing water escapes from either side of station into the sink.

Over the course of 4 years I’ve built 4 x sharpening station for 4 x different stone manufacturers from KingStone to SueHiro to Natural Stone and finally I settled with Shapton stones. I had to throw away the previous ones from my old place as they could not fit this sink at my new place.

The sharpening station I’ve build in this video is specifically made for Shapton's KURO MAKU “Ceramic" series. The overall dimension of the Shapton's KURO MAKU is 210 x 70 x 15mm and the grids are #5000 #8000 and #12000.

For waterproof purpose, I use TiteBond 3 for glueing and spray-painted 3 Coats of Primer Base Coat and 4 Coats of Satin Finish. The thinner, primer and surface finish are all Oil-Base Lacquer that contains Isoamyl Acetate or IAA in short. IAA is a liquid with an intense but pleasant banana-like odor and that's why we call it "Banana Water" or "Sian Jio Sway" here in Taiwan.
