D-Day For the Elizabethton Twins- February 28, 2018.

The City of Elizabethton, Tennessee once issued an ultimatum that a deal with the Minnesota Twins had to get done on the above date if an agreement to renovate O'Brien Field and likely keep the then-professional Appalachian League team in town. The deadline passed and was forgotten. Later, an agreement was reached in which the city would pay over the course of a decade and a half a new kitchen and locker rooms for the Elizabethton Twins. After ONE SEASON, the team then disbanded. Later I learned Minnesota toyed with the idea of moving the team to Beckley, WV, though that never made the papers, but that would have required hiring new personnel (longtime E-Twins manager Ray Smith has firm roots in Elizabethton, even serving as Milligan College's athletic director) and moving to stadium without the amenities desired anyway. Just an example of how the insularity of the City of Elizabethton and the Minnesota Twins organization meant costing the citizens of the town lots of money for basically nothing.
