Sea creatures die en masse off the coast of Peru due to bird flu

The spread of H5N1 bird flu has led to mass animal deaths along the Peruvian coast near the city of Pukusan. Carcasses of sea lions, dolphins, sea turtles and other animals can be found on the beach.

According to Francisco Nisena, president of the Fishermen's Association of Puerto Etén, they die not only because of the spread of the disease, but also because of the imbalance in the food chain and the resulting lack of sustenance.
