Italy: At least 59 migrants drown including 12 children
At least 81 survivors had come ashore, including 22 who are now in hospital. Most of the survivors are said to have come from Afghanistan.
At least 59 migrants, including 12 children, tragically drowned when their boat capsized in the Mediterranean Sea. The ill-fated vessel was carrying 105 passengers from North Africa to Europe when it floundered off the coast of Tunisia. The European Border and Coast Guard Agency launched a search and rescue operation involving several countries and agencies, but unfortunately, only 46 of .the migrants were rescued by passing vessels. This heartbreaking story highlights the plight of countless people who risk their lives for a chance at a better future and stresses the importance of improving search and rescue operations in our hostile seas.
