Harvesting Wild Edible Acorns With Wilderness Rocks From YouTube O5

Joe from Wilderness Rocks came over Wednesday and we found a huge cache of the finest acorns I have ever seen. These are mostly without worms and all nicely waiting for us to harvest.

I was showing Joe around the property as we were walking around the lake. A squirrel was dropping acorns on our heads the whole time. We bent down to have a look at one and it looked very nice and untouched by worms. We each tried a bite and they were the finest acorns I ever tried. These are the least bitter acorns I ever had.

We got some bags and harvested a bunch of acorns. Later I will leach out the tannin in them and then use them for flour, pancakes and coffee. I will so some videos as I work with them.

In only about 15 to 20 minutes we got a nice batch of acorns each.

Acorns are one of the prime survival foods in the woods. These are packed full of nutrients and energy. You can use them in many ways.

The Indians used them heavily as a food source. Squirrels, deer and bear also rely on them as a staple food.

You have to remove the shells, then either boil them in changes of water until the bitterness is gone or leave them in a mesh bag in a flowing stream until you get the same results.

Then you can eat them, roast them or dry and grind them up.

I will make videos as I work with them later on.
