Paneling Tiny Home Living Room And Planning Wood Stove Installation S26
Thursday I spent the day working on the paneling in my tiny house living room. Later in the afternoon I spent some time planning the location and installation of my wood stove.
It took the better part of the day to get just over half of the wall paneling finished in my tiny house on wheels. I am cutting my own paneling from scrap lumber I got for free. This is aged and weathered wood, which when cut open, looks beautiful.
But cutting my own paneling from 2x4 lumber using a table saw takes some time and the job is slow. It is very much worth it though for the money savings and the feeling of accomplishment.
Later, when the saw was too hot to work with, I spent some time planning out my wood stove location.
I have two options. Through the roof or through the wall right out the back of the wood stove. There is no in between because you can only have two elbows in a stove pipe maximum. The wood stove exhaust goes out the back. This means I can either go straight out the wall right behind the wood stove or up through the roof above it.
I am considering the pros and cons of each.
Through the wall behind the stove would be safer in a chimney fire. Just kick off the pipe and the fire is disconnected from the building. Cleaning the pipe is easy for the same reason. Kick off the pipe and clean it outside. The bad points are that the pipe cools off faster outside meaning it will build up more creosote, increasing the risk of a chimney fire. The stove pipe is cooler so building up a good draft is harder. And down drafts can be a problem, blowing smoke into the house.
Going through the roof straight above the stove presents a cleaning problem. The entire pipe is inside the house, meaning any cleaning done will be potentially messy. Chimney fires are inside the house. But most of the heat will be retained inside the house. There will be less creosote build up. And getting a good draft is easier.
I realize that I will have to build up a platform next to the wheel well for my wood stove. There is not enough space by the stairway to get by the wood stove safely.
