Sorting Recycled Barn Wood At The Off Grid Homestead

I spent my day sorting through the old barn wood that I got dropped off at my off grid homestead. This is an entire barn which spans about 160 feet in length by about 8 feet high and 8 feet wide.

This is a lot of old barn wood that I can use for building my tiny house on wheels and for reclaimed barn wood projects and crafts. I have long considered getting into making reclaimed wood furniture and crafts for sale. I may get into it next year.

I also now have a lot of fire wood from the old barn. There is a lot of broken and splintered barn wood here that I can use for my tiny house wood stove.

I figure I have about ten years of fire wood right here with the broken up bits and pieces of barn wood.

As to the usable wood, I have years worth of reclaimed lumber now for The Off Grid Project ™ branded furniture and souvenirs.

While I was walking around with the camera my baby deer were standing next to the barn wood pile. I was able to get right up close to them. They were born right nearby and they trust me.

The young deer ran off but not very far. They went into my meadow where they like to eat the tall grasses and nibble on my fruit trees. I went out to shoo them off. But not before I was able to get quite close to them. They are so cute.

Life on the off grid homestead is never boring. Each day brings something new and some various project that needs to be done. This day it was sorting out barn wood. I need to process these piles of wood before they begin to retain moisture and rot. It is a lot of work but I believe it will be worth it in the end.
