Wat Kang Klong Sra Bua วัดกลางคลองสระบัว

Wat Klang is located off the city island in the northern area of Ayutthaya in Khlong
Sra Bua Sub-district. The temple was situated on the east bank of Sra Bua Canal in an
area called Thung Kaeo. Wat Phisua stood on its north side and Wat Raeng in the south.
Wat Sri Pho and Wat Phrom Kalayaram lie in the west opposite the canal.

In situ are the well known classic monastic structures. The new ordination hall (ubosot) is built in a mix of Early and Late Ayutthaya style with some Late Ratanakosin (Bangkok era) influences. Old satellite chedis are standing in the vicinity of the ubosot.

Historical data about the monastery and its construction are unknown due to almost all records being destroyed when the Burmese army sacked the city.

The highlight of the temple is the old Buddha images in the main hall. The 4 most important are said to have been covered in plaster to hide their true value from the Burmese and were discovered 2 centuries later after an accident cracked the plaster, revealing the ancient Buddha inside. The other 2 images date back 500 and 600 years and the locals see them as very sacred.

I visited this temple several months back and it was flooded for around 3 months. Now the flood waters have retreated but you can still see the level of where the flood waters covered the temple complex.
