Late April Deep Freeze At The Off Grid Homestead

Saturday (sorry I am catching up on videos) I helped a friend out with some stuff at his place. I was out for most of the day. During the previous night we had a deep freeze. It is a surprise this late in the season.

When I checked things in the morning buckets of water were frozen hard. Not all the way through but the tops had about an 8th of an inch of inch of ice on the tops. It was in the mid 20s during the night and things froze quite hard.

My brand new blueberry plant died. I will have to get out and check things during the following days to see what other plants may have been damaged from the freeze.

When I got back to the homestead in the afternoon I found just the opposite extreme inside my tiny house on wheels. It was 96 degrees inside!!!

I had left the wood stove going because it was so cold when I left in the morning. But it warmed up nicely outside and inside.

My poor cats were left panting. The baby chicks were alive but panting. The kittens seemed fine though.

I immediately closed off the wood stove and opened up all the windows of my tiny house to air it out some.

The kittens look like they will have their eyes open any day now.
