I have a seed sprouting kit that I am using to produce my own healthy and nutritious sprouts to supplement my winter diet. Some healthy greens added to the bleak winter days is good for you. This gives you some added minerals and vitamins which may be lacking in the standard cold weather climate during the winter months.

To sprout seeds all you need is some sort of container with a mesh or screen cover.

Soak the seeds for about 8 hours, typically overnight. The seeds will expand to about three times their normal size.

Rinse the seeds and drain them well. Let them sit and do their thing. Rinse the seeds two times per day so prevent mold from forming.

I use a container with about one or two cups of water to rinse my sprouts. Most instructions suggest using 6 cups of running water under the kitchen faucet. But I cannot spare that much water since I am off the grid. So I use the container and it works just fine with a lot less wasted water.

After about 3 to 4 days the sprouts should be ready to eat. Your sprouts are best when the little green leaves start to show up.

Eat them as it, in salads or sandwiches. Be creative and enjoy the valuable nutrients that sprouts provide you.
