Busy Day At The Off Grid Homestead And Tiny House

Friday was a busy day at the off grid homestead and tiny house. I was running all over the place getting various things done.

My off grid solar homestead had seen no sun in three days. I also had no gas because I could not get in and out of the property with a vehicle. This meant no generator to charge the solar forklift battery back up.

This gave me the perfect opportunity to test out the solar forklift battery. I had to run my LED lighting, internet modem and my laptop many hours per day on just the reserve power of the forklift battery. It stayed between 12.0 and 12.4 volts the entire time.

I have a guaranty on the forklift battery so I will wait for another month until the ground firms up. The company cannot get out here right now anyway. This will give me time to figure out what is wrong with the system or if the battery is defective.

I got my old Simplicity garden tractor running again. It had been sitting all winter. Their is no choke on it so when I last tried to start it the battery ran dead. So I put a 5 watt solar panel on it and left it all winter. To my amazement the battery was fully charged back up when I tried it.

I need to replace the choke cable and then I will be able to run this old machine even in colder weather. For now though a bit of starting fluid did the trick.

I have a slow gas leak I need to find. The gas tank was empty and I know I had left gas in it when I last drove it.

I used the garden tractor and wagon to drive out to the car and empty it out. I had a bunch of stuff in the car from shopping. 150 pounds of chicken feed, a 5 gallon gas can and more. With the mud and the 1/4 mile walk plus my still aching rib I was not going to hand carry that all the way to the tiny house.

I have been sprouting seeds regularly now. I try to keep some rotated out at all times so I have some fresh vitamins and minerals on hand each day. It tastes good and is very nutritious for you.
