Homestead Cleanup & Making Our Own Mulch

We are hard at work cleaning up the off grid homestead and getting the garden ready for a large amount of food this year. We are also attempting to make our own garden mulch.

We hope to have the entire meadow cleaned out this year. This means nothing on the yard but the house and the gardens. We are getting closer to our goal each day.

We drove out the wood chipper with the garden tractor and set up the table saw and generator to try to make our own mulch using the old 2x4 lumber from the garden.

But sadly the wood chipper is very dull and it only takes about 1.5 inch diameter pieces of wood max. This means I have to cut all the wood in strips and give them to Chris who slowly feeds them into the chipper. It is very slow going and an hour and a half did not produce much mulch at all.

We even tried tossing through a mess of leaves but it does not amount to much after it is mulched and sprayed all over the place.

I will only use this machine in the future for tiny branches and brush and for leaves. It is not good for larger work. I need to find myself a commercial wood chipper cheap and use that out here from now on.
