What Are These Strange Creatures In The Water

While at the cabin my Sister and I had some glow sticks and got the idea of putting them in the water to see if any fish would come up to them. Instead we got to see thousands of tiny little creatures of all shapes and sizes.

There were round red things, long worm like creatures, baby mosquitoes, split tailed things and more.

The glow sticks were literally covered with these tiny little creatures.

I had no idea there was so much life in this lake. These cannot be seen by day due to all the debris floating in the water. We call it muck but it is just dead plant matter floating all over the lake. It has built up through the years to form a deep layer at the bottom of the lake, filling it nearly to the surface.

I had just used this water to rinse my mouth after brushing my teeth. I had no idea all these living creatures were in the very same water I had used earlier in the day.
