Making Rustic Pallet Wood Bathroom Wall In My Tiny Home

I started working in the tiny house bathroom using pallet wood on the walls. At first I was not sure how it would look but after I got a few board up there it looked quite nice so I kept going.

This was an experiment. I wanted to finish the bathroom walls with pallet wood but I was not sure if I wanted to plane the wood to make it look nice and new or keep it rustic looking with all the nails, rust, cracks and holes in it.

Using the planer would take forever though because of all the nails in the wood. I would have to remove literally every trace of metal or ruin the planer blades.

So I went with the rough, rustic look of unprocessed raw pallet wood.

I had a longer pallet with white looking boards and two older gray pallets that actually look like barn siding when it is up on the wall.

I left in the nails and everything to give it a nice rustic look. I am going for a rustic look throughout my tiny house on wheels.

The only down side to using recycled lumber is the time it takes to process and prepare all the wood before I can use it.

It takes time to rip apart pallets without destroying the wood. You have to work slow and carefully or the wood will split apart around the nails most of the time.

And I have to remove the nails and staples before I can use the wood as well. Many of these boards were recycled before they were built into the pallets as I got them. So they had a lot of nails cut off and embedded into the wood. This gave a nice look to the wood though.

It took me 8 hours to finish one single wall of the tiny house bathroom but it sure is worth it in the end. There is no tiny house in the World quite like my own.
