Finishing My Pallet Wood Picket Fence Gate

I finished my second pallet wood picket fence gate. Then I put on a latch between the double gates and secured the entire fence line so it is stable.

It was quite a job putting on my own homemade pallet wood picket fence gates. I had a lot of work to do in order to get the two doors to line up properly.

I had to plan for a space between the gate halves so that they will open easily without rubbing on one another. Then I had to have a space for the hinges to swing properly as well. I had to align the fence row itself so they two gate halves will line up properly. I had to reinforce the two gates and the supporting fence with 2x4s in order to keep everything from sagging and keep the hinge bolts from pulling out.

I used some 2x4s to keep the entire fence from swinging with the weight of the gates when I opened and closed them. I screwed a 2x4 to the fence on either side of the gate. Then I drilled a hole in the board near the ground. Next I drove a stake through the hole into the ground.

This nicely keeps the entire fence from swinging.

And all of this on uneven ground too.

But I finally got it. I have a working double gate that is big enough to drive a car though. That was my goal. You never know what I might need to deliver into the yard or the woods beyond in the future so it is better to plan ahead now.
