Making A Pallet Wood Picket Fence Gate

I am at the point in my pallet wood picket fence where I need to put in the gate. This will be a double gate with two pallets to give me an entry wide enough for a vehicle to pass through.

I am using large heavy duty hinges with lag bolts to hold them to the pallets. The pallet wood gates are being reinforced with 2x4s behind the hinges for extra strength.

The gate will have a simple latch in the middle.

To keep the gates from swinging I have a rod for each side which you lift up to swing the gate, then drop down to hold it in place. This will prevent the gates from swinging shut on my car as I drive through.

The pallet wood picket fence gate I have built a little bit differently. I left the corner framing intact for strength. This gives the gate a bit more weight though but it helps keep it strong and rigid.

Working on the gate has been the longest part of the pallet wood picket fence project so far. But it sure looks good. I am quite pleased with the results.
