Installing A 2nd Solar Charge Controller In My Tiny House On Wheels

I purchased a second Morningstar Tristar solar charge controller for my off grid tiny house on wheels. This will greatly increase the amount of usable solar energy I have available at the off grid homestead.

I immediately installed the charge controller right out of the box.

This was an all day project though in part due to severe thunder storms which were blasting lightning through the area. For some reason the lightning travels miles and hits my wires.

I was out in the tent at one time during the day getting tools and lightning struck miles away but I heard the electricity zap and travel through the metal tent frame. I got out of there in a hurry I must say. There must be heavy metal deposits in the ground here.

While I was at it I lowered the original MPPT solar charge controller a bit so it could get better cooling.

It was raining quite hard during this day which was exciting because it was replenishing the water I had used up when my guests were visiting last week.

I am hoping the rain will top off my rain water collection tank before the long dry spell comes later this month.

I had to disassemble all the original wires going in and out of the original solar charge controller in order to install the wiring into the new one.

I mounted the new solar charge controller next to the original.

I am using some conduit boxes to house the main high current wires which lead out to my solar power forklift batteries outside the tiny house. The conduit boxes will protect the wires from shorting together and give me a convenient way to connect and disconnect wires as needed in the future.

Watch for part two of the installation coming soon..
