First Try At Making Goat Milk Butter On The Homestead

I studied options online for making butter out of goats milk. They say that goats milk is naturally homogenized so it is hard to separate. But they also say that if you leave the milk sitting still for a while the cream will rise to the top.

I left some bottles of goats milk sitting still for a few days and some cream did rise to the top.

I used a turkey baster to suck the cream off the top without disturbing the milk underneath. I wanted just the cream.

I put the cream in a pan as I worked. I got the cream off the top of four quarts of milk.

I poured the cream into the butter churn and got to work. I worked. And worked. And worked.

Unfortunately I learned that the cream must be at about 65 degrees F for best results. But after sitting out for hours it never got that warm. So I put it in the fridge for the night and pulled it back out the next day.

I left it out to get down to room temperature, which took hours.

Then I cranked on the butter churn for many hours with Melanie taking turns. We had hope because some of the cream got sticky and stuck on the paddles. But it was just a tiny bit and never amounted to anything.

I dont know why this never turned to butter.

But I will try again one day.
