It was an unusually warm and sunny day in December, near 60 degrees in the afternoon so I worked on the Jeep for a while.

When I bought the Jeep I also looked online and found better tires with nice looking rims for it. And I picked up a nice deal on a luggage rack.

Now that the Jeep is home, I wanted to take the time to fix it up on a nice warm day.

I will be using the Jeep during the winter months when there is snow on the ground so I need to get it ready for winter. The old tires were badly dry rotted and worn.

I set up all my gear to swap out the tires on the Jeep. I managed to get the front tire swapped out with no problem. While I had the tire off I checked the brakes and suspension. The brakes are new but the sway bar bushings are shot.

On the back drivers side of the Jeep I ran into a problem. One of the lug nuts is sheared off at the tapered part. The part that goes into a socket is gone. Totally gone. Only the tapered part is still on the lug bolt. I cannot get the tire off with normal means.

So I changed the other front tire for now and left the back ones for later. I have to study online how to get that tire off.

After lunch I put a luggage rack on the top of the Jeep. I had this for months now but never opened the box until now.

I like it.

This will be my Survival Bug Out Vehicle. I plan to have this Jeep fully loaded for a bug out scenario. It will be decked out with everything you need for long term survival. I will keep my bug out bag in the Jeep as well once I am done working on it.

Now that Melanie is on the way, I have to change my plans a bit though. I had originally planned to put a single bed in the back which folds into a seat. Now I need to put a double bed back there or have an outside shelter for sleeping. I am rethinking my plans for shelter now.

Tell me what you think of the new luggage rack.
