Working For Others Today & Wood Stove Heat Shield Experiment
I helped out a neighbor with a house clean out job which took nearly the entire day. In the late afternoon I took apart a metal cabinet which I plan to use for a heat shield for the tiny house wood stove.
I left the house at 9:30 in the morning to help out my friend. He had a house clean out job he was working on and he needed help.
Sadly the trip took us way too long because it is a 30 minute drive to the dump one way and then the dump was very slow and left us waiting for an hour. We lost two hours of our day there.
We had another full load to take out of the house after the first trip to the dump. This load had some good tools and equipment that we were going to split up among the two of us.
I got some tar paper for my battery storage shed and some good garden tools. A long 8 foot tree pruner will be helpful to keep the trees trimmed back from the edges of the meadow at the off grid homestead.
I got a garbage can on wheels that we can use this coming weekend. I have friends coming over to help clean up the property. We plan to have the entire property cleaned up in a single day.
While in town taking some things to the Salvation Army, we went to Lowes where I bought my roofing for the off grid solar battery shed. This will also house my rain water collection tanks. The shed will be insulated and will keep my batteries warm and the rain water tanks from freezing.
I was hoping to get home in time to start working on the off grid shed roof but I did not get back to the homestead until about 4 in the afternoon. By the time we got the truck unloaded it was already 4:30 and getting dark soon.
I quickly dismantled the old metal storage cabinet that I got to use as a heat shield for my tiny house wood stove.
I wanted to use the two sides of this metal cabinet inside my off grid tiny home next to the wood stove. This will keep the walls from getting hot when I use the wood stove for heating my tiny house.
I managed to get the cabinet apart before dark and took the metal sheets inside to try it out.
I placed one piece up by the wood stove on a cement block for now to try out my idea. Then I fired up the wood stove to see how it will work.
Success. The wall behind the heat shield is cool to the touch even with a roaring fire inside the wood stove.
I will build a proper heat shield and then take the metal out and wire brush and sand it. This heat shield will look better than the cement board I used last year.
