Melanie & I Preparing For A Survival Trip

Melanie and I spent the weekend on a survival outing with a friend. We had planned this for a while and Saturday morning we were putting our backpacks together and double checking our gear for the trip.

Since this is the first trip of the year and Melanie's first ever, we were not going to be gone too long. We headed out Saturday afternoon, spent the night out, and then returned Sunday to the homestead.

But the experience gained during this trip is valuable.

The purpose of the trip was to check our gear and test things out. This was my first time hiking with a partner. This meant that I had to build a shelter for two and not just for myself. I spent my whole life hiking and building a shelter for myself alone.

With a partner I have to rethink everything.

We can also divide our gear and share the weight of things now that I have Melanie by my side.
