Preparing For Maple Syrup Harvest & Its Snowing
The weather is going to turn warm again so I am planning to build a new maple syrup evaporator. I hope to process a lot more maple syrup this year.

I was out wheeling and dealing all day looking for the right equipment to build my new maple syrup evaporator.
I finally found two large stainless steel restaurant pans which I can use for boiling off maple syrup. I also got an old household wood stove which I will use for the evaporator.
I will remove the shielding from the wood stove and then cut into the top of it to fit the pans. The idea is to have the flames of the fire licking at the bottom of the syrup pans. This gives you maximum heat transfer into the sap.
I will build a sugar shack out of pallet wood and free tarps I got from the lumber yard. The sugar shack will simply be 3 pallets wide by 2 deep by 2 high. I will cover it with the tarps to provide a simple but effective sugar shack.
I can also keep my smoker in the sugar shack to protect it from the elements and extend its life. Plus then I can smoke meats or process maple syrup in all types of weather.
In the past rainy weather or exceptionally windy days hindered my work.
Back at the homestead I cut some more fire wood because I burnt through about a week worth of fire wood heating my off grid tiny house in just two days of cold and wind.
