Moving Chicken Coops & Mulching Trees On The Homestead

We finished moving the second chicken coop into place and placed the birds back. Then we spent the rest of the day mulching fruit trees on the off grid homestead.

The large pallet wood chicken coop I built last year was too big for the trailer so we had to stand it up on its side. But we got it into place and drove it over to its final resting place by the other chickens.

The new chicken area is a chicken coop within a chicken coop. I have a fenced in area around the chicken coops. I plan to put up electric fence around the outside pen to further protect the chickens from predators.

Chris and I picked up a load of mulch from the pile I got for free last fall. We loaded the bed of the truck and hauled it over to the off grid homestead.

I shoveled the mulch into the wheelbarrow and took it over to the trees where Chris helped me spread the mulch around the base of each tree.

This will help provide moisture for the trees and also minerals and fertilizer as the mulch decays.

Actually this is pretty good stuff already because it is quite far decayed and leaching out nutrients into the soil.
