Snowy Day Working At The Off Grid Homestead

It was a snowy day at the off grid homestead but work went on as usual. I cannot let the snow slow me down at all. It was quite pretty really.

Melanie was delighted to see the snow through Skype in the morning as she watched the big fluffy flakes fall down slowly on a white World.

We had about 1 to 2 inches of snow which is the most we had so far this year.

I was sweeping off the solar panels repeatedly during the day. Amazingly I was pulling in some power already in the early morning hours due to the reflection of the snow. This is unusual for this hour on any day because the sun is still low and has not cleared the trees. Not to mention that it was dark and cloudy on top of that.

I worked upstairs in the tiny house loft quite a bit on this day cleaning up. Since working on the loft study the catwalk was a mess and needed to be cleaned up. I had a lot of stuff in boxes stored in there and it all has to find a place.

I also sorted my books some more on the book shelves. I have all the books out now and on the shelves. I am sorting out what goes in the new office and what stays on the main book shelves.

I split some more fire wood to heat my off grid tiny house on wheels. It is going to be getting colder this week and I will be burning more fire wood.

I am trying to get a wood stove installed in my off grid battery and water shed to keep it from freezing in there. I have an antique Dandy coal oven that I am going to use. I have a problem though and that is the fitting for the stove pipe is too small for a normal pipe. I have to find some sort of adapter for it.

I have been experimenting with off grid solar batteries for a while now. I have some little bit of time left before Melanie arrives so I am working with some batteries I bought as scrap from the scrap metal yard a couple months ago. I am using only these batteries for now to see how well they perform. This may help other people who find themselves in the same situation one day and need to recycle some batteries.

I connected a third recycled battery to the bank and I will see how well the three perform. This brings me up to about 300 AH of battery capacity for my off grid tiny home.

The forklift battery is fine and well. It is just sitting there for now on a trickle charge from a solar panel and resting while I experiment with the smaller batteries.

ThruNite sent me a keychain LED flashlight to test out. This is a nice little light that uses a single AAA flashlight battery. It has four modes ranging from firefly mode to medium, high and flashing mode. I love that the flashing mode is hidden and does not automatically come on when switching through modes.

I will do a complete review and test of this light in the coming weeks and do an update video when I am finished.

In the evening the solar LED path lights were very pretty on the snow. I love my path lights in the winter snow.
