Clearing Forest ~ Saw Breakdown ~ Huge Gift For The Homestead

We are clearing out a wider living area for ourselves and our animals on the 56 acres of wild land that we are buying. Our little homestead sits in a small meadow at the beginning of the land.

The saw runs very well and cuts the smaller trees nicely. For its engine size it outperforms most chain saws in its class by far. But I got it second hand so we found some problems.

The choke was not connected to the lever so the chain saw was hard to start. That is no problem for now though in summer. It just means that it needs to be fixed by winter.

As I was cutting trees into logs though the chain started to get loose. I wanted to shut off the chain saw but it would not shut off. The kill switch would not work.

So I just kept cutting and figured I would run the saw until the gas ran out. But the chain eventually slipped off the bar. Fortunately at this moment the kill switch finally worked and I cut it off.

This chain saw had run a very long time and cut a lot of wood on a tank of gas though and was still running when I shut it off.

Chris worked on the saw while I went in to work on the computer for a while and rehydrate. I had sweat out a lot while working.

Chris checked the switch with a multimeter but it seems to be working fine. Next he attached the choke to the lever, which now works fine. It was just out of place for some reason.

But later we found a different problem after I had put the camera down. The adjusting screw to tighten the chain was broken. The tab that puts pressure on the chain is gone.

So we grabbed the old blue Homelite and the McCulloch chain saw and put them into the bed of the truck to see about finding parts at the local small engine shop.

While on the way we found a very large package waiting for us. We put this into the bed of the truck and brought it back home.

The shop told us that there are no parts for the McCulloch chain saw anymore so we will have to do a search online later. The man must have just hand tightened the chain and then tightened the nuts to hold it in place. It worked anyway.

The shop owner is going to find us the right fuel lines for the old blue Homelite.

Back at the off grid homestead we opened up the massive package. It was a brand new Husqvarna 450 chain saw!!!

Chris and I were so excited. We have been working with cheap old chain saws for a long time now. Our projects have been delayed and slowed down due to working with junk all this time.

After I read the extensive manual, we went back out to the woods to cut some trees with our new chainsaw. It sure is a powerful beast.

At 50.2 cc and 3.2 HP, this thing runs very strong. It has the same size engine as a moped or motor scooter for comparison.

It really sounds good cutting out in the woods. It weighs 10 pounds so its not too heaavy to use. And it sure is easy on the arms. I was cutting twigs and branches off the tree with ease. With all the other chainsaws I have used, this was a challenge due to the vibration of the saw wearing out my arms.

After cutting for a while my arms felt fine. No vibrating and no loss of circulation like I get with the other saws I have used.

This Husqvarna chain saw cuts everything like a hot knife through butter. I love it. It handles well. Cuts well. Feels good.
