Back To Work At The Off Grid Project & Something NEW
Melanie and I have safely arrived back in New York and the off grid homestead. We made the long drive home from Michigan the other day.
I got right back to work on the off grid homestead. We are right in the middle of maple syrup season and the sap is flowing. I missed a week while we were in Michigan so I had to get right back to work.
I spent some time working on the tiny house plumbing. I wanted to put the water pump and accumulator up higher on the wall of the water shed so it would be warmer and not freeze as easily in the future.
I also plan to rebuild the entire system properly and install the water filter on the high pressure side as originally intended. This means some cutting and modification of the lines.
While working on the plumbing I was running back and forth to the sugar shack, boiling down maple syrup.
My parents gave Melanie and I an awesome wedding gift. We got a beautiful 1995 Dodge Dakota truck with only 100k original miles on it and not a speck of rust anywhere to be seen. This was a southern truck and has never seen salt and rot.
It was a special custom built truck and is probably unique in the World. It has leather interior with wood trim. The center console on the ceiling has lights which look very nice. The truck seats 6 people an has a full bench seat in the front and the back.
We drove this truck all the way from Michigan to New York with no problem. It got about 18 mpg at around 70 mph all the way. I am very pleased with this truck.
It has a trailer hitch and wiring harness which will be very useful out here on the homestead.
I worked on maple syrup processing late into the night in the sugar shack. My new homemade maple syrup evaporator is very efficient and uses only twigs and branches to boil down the maple sap at a rolling boil.
