Building A Porch Using All Free Recycled Materials

A friend came over to help out for part of the day and we got to work building a porch in front of my tiny house on wheels.

This is a small porch which will have a screen door and keep shoes, jackets, gloves and garden tools in it. This will also act as a wind shield to reduce heat loss in winter when entering or leaving the tiny house.

It is a free standing structure and not attached to the tiny house in any way. This makes it easy to move if I ever need to in the future. I also left room to get the tiny house siding on between the porch and the tiny house walls.

And it will stop the driving winds from blasting rain in around the door frame and through the door panels themselves.

While my friend was here we managed to get the floor on, frame in the walls and put on a roof. We got most of a set of steps finished in front of the porch before he had to leave.

After he was gone I finished putting the screws in the roofing sheets. Then I put on a piece of plywood for one of the side walls. It fit perfectly and closed up the entire wall with one sheet.

I then framed in the front wall and hung a screen door that I had on hand for this project.

I secured up the steps and finished that project too.

It was getting dark so I had to call it a night or I would have finished the entire project in a day.

The whole project cost me nothing at all from start to finish. I used all materials that I had on hand or got for free. Most of the framing and wood came from the barn wood pile that I have out in the woods. The roofing sheet was a piece that matches the tiny house roofing and was a cover sheet for them. It fit perfectly for the porch roof.

You can often hear Melanie working in the background but she did not want to be on video this day. I did not ask why and did not push her.
