Finishing The Super Deluxe Chicken Tractor
Chris and I finished building the chicken tractor. I used the air stapler and build frames for the chicken coop that sits on top using all scrap wood. Even the sheet metal was scrap that I salvaged for this purpose.
I think this is the best job I have ever done on a chicken coop. This is a bantam chicken tractor so the nesting boxes and chicken coop are smaller.
I used the air stapler for the entire project. Not a single nail was used in making this chicken tractor. I used sheet metal screws on the roofing material though because they have special washers for waterproofing.
I built a nesting box for the hens to lay eggs in and put on a removable lid so we can easily check for eggs.
A ramp goes up from under the bottom of the chicken coop to the ground below. I build this using scrap wood and the air stapler.
Chris was cutting metal for me as I built the coop itself during the process. He had helped me put on the metal screen in part one of the video.
Melanie later came out to help us move the chicken tractor into its place. We have handles on all four sides of the chicken tractor to make it easy to pick up and move.
The bantams were very happy in their new home, scratching and looking for bugs.
I will look for some hardware cloth to cover the bottom half of the chicken tractor to make it even safer against predators although raccoons generally only attack at night when the birds are in the chicken coop above.
To prevent predators from digging around underneath I will use more chicken wire on the ground around the chicken tractor and put boards on that.
This chicken tractor is inside the new chicken coop I had built so the chickens are double secured. Later I will run electric fence around the outer chicken coop as well for extra safety.
