Homestead Animals & Lots Of Work At The Off Grid Homestead

The three of us have been working hard on the off grid homestead the past few days. We had some extreme heat and humidity this year though so we can only work in the mornings and evenings.

When Melanie says it is too hot out to work then you know you are in trouble.

It was so hot out that condensation was collecting on the outside of the door window when it was 76 degrees F inside the tiny house on wheels. This means that 76 was cold compared to the outside temperature. Now that is hot.

I got Chris a brand new Ryobi chain saw. This is the Ryobi One + which uses the same batteries that we already have. I wanted to get the one without the battery but this was all they had in stock.

Chris is very happy about the new tool. He has been felling trees and cutting brush piles down with a Ryobi reciprocating saw all this time. Now with a battery powered chain saw he can really do some work.

Chris cannot handle a normal chain saw. It hurts way too much for him so I wanted to get him this one.

We will see how it works out for him and let you guys know.

I picked up a used chain saw at a garage sale and we are going to see how well it performs. We still need a heavy duty chain saw for logging out the woods but for now we can do some light duty work with this one.

Chris is my chain saw man. He sharpens the chains and keeps the saws in good working order for us all the time.

The homestead animals are all doing well. We have not lost a single chicken to animals. Chris puts them into bed at night every single night.

The chickens are growing fast so we are working on clearing out an area of trees to put the birds in later. They will have a large free range area to run around in.

The turkeys are pretty cool I think but Chris does not like them because they attack in the night. You can pick them up in the day and they are tame but at night they turn into vicious animals. They fluff up their feathers, hiss like a snake and attack. They will make you bleed.

I do like this about the turkeys though because that means they will survive an attack whereas you can pluck a chicken bald in the night and it will just sit there and scream.

The turtle is doing well in his aquarium. He sits on the rocks all day basking in the sun. We have a little frog that moved in with the turtle and we are going to let him stay as long as he wants.

The comets in with the turtle are also doing well and growing. These were feeder fish that I got to eat the mosquito larvae. They are doing a good job at it too.
