Making A Raccoon Proof Chicken Coop

After starting the new chicken run I decided to make it into a full chicken tractor. This is going to be a raccoon and predator proof chicken coop.

I finished making the door and mounting it on the chicken coop. Then I used wood and screws to make two latches for the door. Another board inside the door prevents raccoons from pushing the door inwards to ruin the hinges.

Then I started working on mounting some fencing onto the frame of the new chicken coop. Chris was working on fixing my chain saw which had bound on a tree and threw the chain. It caused some burring on the chain.

Later Chris helped me work on the new chicken tractor. This is going to be a light weight chicken tractor which is sturdy and stops most predators.

We managed to get the fence on pretty well using my air stapler. Some of you may remember last year I bought an air framing nailer, stapler and roofing nailer plus cases of staples and nails for less than the cost of a used framing nailer.

Now I am happily using the air stapler. I used all scrap lumber to make this chicken tractor from start to finish. The framing for the chicken house that sits on top is made using all 2x2 scrap lumber and OSB scrap. It is all stapled together. No screws or nails were used in the making of this chicken tractor until I got to the sheet metal.

I have some scrap 10 inch long pieces of metal roofing which I had kept for making chicken coops with. This is turning out to be quite perfect for my new chicken tractor.

Stay tuned for part two of the project.....
