Revelation 14:1 says, "Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads."
Lamb = Preferred Title of Jesus
We like Lion but Christ prefers Lamb (28x in Revelation)
It is an emphasis on the Atoning Work of Christ
Sacrifice of Christ is the Gospel message
Paul said, "We preach Christ and Him crucified"
Mt. Zion = Jerusalem
Literal reference?
160x in the OT, Mt Zion = literal Jerusalem except 2x
Verse 2 indicates it is the literal Jeruslaem
John is getting a preview of the Return of Christ which actually happens in Revelation 19
Revelation 14 is not Chronological. We've seen this before.
John is seeing ahead to the Return of Christ to Jerusalem and notice who is described to be with Him

Revelation 7:4 says, "Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel."
Who are the 144,000
Jehovah Witnesses claim to be
Jehovah is not God's name btw
This is pretty simple actually
all from the tribes of Israel
And if you are still struggling with who the 144,000 is look at the next verse
Revelation 7:5-8 says, "From the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed, from the tribe of Reuben 12,000, from the tribe of Gad 12,000, 6 from the tribe of Asher 12,000, from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000, from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000, 7 from the tribe of Simeon 12,000, from the tribe of Levi 12,000, from the tribe of Issachar 12,000, 8 from the tribe of Zebulun 12,000, from the tribe of Joseph 12,000, from the tribe of Benjamin 12,000."
It was like God knew people would have a hard time understanding who these 144,000 are so he broke down even more
12x12,000 = 144,000
These are Jews not Jehovah's Witness
Seal on their forehead that protects them
They are all the Tribes of Israel
There are some things added and some things missing that are not like the rest of the times in Scripture that the tribes are listed
They are not in birth order
Levi is listed which the priests had their own inheritance and were not included in the 12 tribes
Dan is missing which this was the Northern Tribe
I believe the Antichrist will be Jewish
Many scholars believe the Antichrist will also be Jewish and will come from the tribe of Dan which is why it is not listed here
The basis is built upon Jacob's prophecies over his children
Jacob prophecies over Judah that the Messiah will come through this tribe
Judah and Benjamin will become one and split from the Northern Kingdom of Israel
Genesis 49:17 says, "Dan will be a snake by the roadside, a viper along the path, that bites the horse’s heels so that its rider tumbles backward."
Many believe this is a prophecy about the antichrist
Just as Jacob prophesied about the Christ, it's possible he prophesied about the antichrist as well
In Revelation 14 we are given more info about the 144,000
Revelation 14:2-5 says, "And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. 3 And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4 These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. 5 No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless."
Few more things we learn about these 144,000
1. They did not defile themselves with women (Virgins)
Could mean celebate but probably not
God often refers to the nation of Israel as Virgin Israel
The Church is also referred to as a Virgin
2nd Corthinians 11:2 says, "I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him."
It's not talking about sexuality but idolatry
Idolatry is spiritual adultery
These 144,000 have not engaged in idolatry
2. They followed the Lamb without question
This means they are obedient
3. They have no lies on their lips
Their mouths were tamed
James 3:2 says, "We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check."
James 3:7-10
4. They are blameless
Not sinless but blameless
They have been redeemed by the Lamb
In Christ we stand blameless before the Father
144,000 witnesses
We are supposed to be witnesses here and now
Acts 1:8 = Power to Witness
Notice what stood out about these witnesses
No idols
Lived obedient lives
Controlled their mouths
Made blameless by the Work of Christ
