One of the greatest villains in video game history is Sparda's first son, Vergil. In the Devil May Cry series, Vergil has been seen as a villain and also at times, an anti-hero. He sought power to surpass his brother and his father, but even more so, to never be beaten in battle again. To never lose against his enemy, ever since the loss of his parents to the hands of demons, Vergil refuses to be a victim

His thirst for power was born from trauma and as a response, he doomed the world, several times, tore himself apart in two, erected an ancient demonic tower, revived a demonic, planet-devouring plant, fought against his twin brother Dante, had a son he did not know existed and fought against the Prince of Darkness and was broken into pieces

Vergil, despite all these atrocities and losses, continues to claim superiority and one day seeks to be the better son of his father and to become the ultimate devil.
