5 FACTS ABOUT A NUCLEAR ATTACK ON TEXAS
Fact #1: A nuclear explosion is caused by an uncontrolled chain reaction that splits atomic nuclei (fission) to produce an intense wave of heat, light, air pressure, and radiation, followed by the production and release of radioactive particles. [1]
Fact #2: In the event of a nuclear attack, potential targets in the United States include large population centers, military installations, and critical infrastructure. Some examples of likely US nuclear targets include the Pentagon, Camp David, Jim Creek Naval Radio Station in Washington, Fort Ritchie in Maryland, and McClellan Air Force Base in California. [2][3]
Fact #3: Texas is home to several military installations, including Fort Hood, Joint Base San Antonio, and the Red River Army Depot. These could potentially be targets in the event of a nuclear attack. [2][3]
Fact #4: In the event of a nuclear attack, it is important to have a plan in place and know what to do to protect yourself and your family. This may include seeking shelter, having emergency supplies on hand, and following instructions from local authorities. [1]
Fact #5: While the prospect of a nuclear attack is frightening, it is important to remember that steps have been taken to prevent such an event from occurring. International treaties, such as the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, aim to reduce the risk of nuclear war by limiting the number of nuclear weapons in existence and promoting peaceful uses of nuclear technology. [1]
