CHAPTER 8: THE POWER OF PRAYER
GENESIS 27, 32, AND 33
I really found it interesting, that Darlene would use Jacob as an example of this, considering everything that this man did. As you see in chapter 27, Jacob deceives his brother Esau, as well as most importantly, his own father Isaac, into giving him the blessing/birthright that normally goes to the oldest, by disguising himself as Esau, with the help of his own mother Rebecca. Now, to sum up the situation, Rebecca did this, because like Isaac, she was a parent that played favorites with the children. She favored Jacob, while Isaac favored Esau, And we know the disaster that came out of this. She was trying to help God along, like so many of us try to do, because God promised her that Jacob would be the greater son. Esau's response to all of this, was not only extreme remorse and wailing over the fact that his blessing had been taken from him, but now he wanted to kill Jacob! So, because of that threat, Rebecca convinced Isaac to allow Jacob to leave Home.
In the midst of being out on his own, he's deceived by his own uncle Laban, into marrying both of his daughters, and both Rachel, and Leah suffered badly for it. By this point, Jacob has had it with his uncle deceiving him, but in the midst of the deceit Jacob is being blessed, so he decides to leave, and conflict results in this. Now that Jacob is away from all of that, he is now made aware of the fact, that Esau his older brother now, is in the vicinity, and that scares the living daylights out of him. So, the only thing that Jacob knows to do at this point, is to place himself in God's hands. Here are the steps that Jacob took in this matter, and what we can learn from them.
