The Wild History of Disney's Song of the South

This is a long one because Rob is gonna tell you the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly about Disney's Song of the South. Rob holds no punches and gives you the complete history of this film. We look at it all from its roots with Joel Chandler Harris and the Tales of Uncle Remus and the impact those stories have had on the literary community. We even have multiple critics of Harris give their two cents. We examine Walt Disney's Wish to make the Song of the South Trilogy and how multiple versions of the script were made with an army of different consultants including a literal Communist being brought in to make sure the film wasn't remotely Uncle Tomish. We examine how some felt this film was propaganda of the Double V Campaign to the NAACP's View that Disney had weaponized Uncle Remus against the African American community. We even examine Disney's use of the property decades after the film. It is the team's effort that this is objective, fair, and a proper history of the intent and heart of this incorrectly maligned film.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't force it to drink. Make up your own mind and watch the film for yourself over on Archive!
