This particular wild blueberry shrub at the Escambia Lakes & Gardens plant nursery has been pruned for the last 3 years and is one of our largest producers of sweet delicious berries in early spring. This particular wild blueberry is classified under the scientific name Vaccinium Elliottii, also known as Elliott's blueberry but not to be confused with some other Elliott blueberry of a different scientific classification that's being marketed by some nurseries in the east. These blueberry shrubs have beautiful small, oblong leaves, typically no larger than 1/2 to 3/4 inches, which turn ed beautiful gold and red colors in the autumn. The pink and white upside down urn flowers emerge in late winter and fruit emerges in early spring. The fruit are small dark blue or black berries about the size of a peppercorn and are distributed throughout the plant at various branches and stems not typically in large clumps like other varieties in the vaccinium family. When pruned and cared for and properly pollinated these plants are beautiful yard plant additions which also produce natural, delicious and nutritious berries. At Escambia Lakes & Gardens, we offer these plants to growers in various forms including seeds, bare-root starts, scions/cuttings and potted plants.
