Years before the Man of Steel, was the Man of Bronze, Doc Savage, with his fortress of solitude, created for Pulp Magazines by Henry W. Ralston, with help from editor John L. Nanovic, and additional material contributed by the series' main writer, Lester Dent. To capitalize on the success of The Shadow magazine and followed by the original Avenger, Clark (Doc) Savage Jr first appeared on March 1933, in the first issue of Doc Savage Magazine, with the original story, The Man Of Bronze. Savage had no special powers but was raised from birth by his father and other scientists to become one of the most perfect of human beings, in terms of strength, intelligence, and physical abilities. Doc Savage fights against evil with the assistance of the "Fabulous Five", Renny, Johnny, Long Tom, Ham, Monk, and occasionally his cousin Pat.
