GREAT HIKES: Memories of Saddle Mt in the Rain & Snow.

Saddle Mountain: One of the best hikes that anyone can do! It is even fit for family outings as there are many places to rest along the trail. Very scenic - you can see the Ocean from the top on a clear day. Great for jogging, fantastic for photography - you name it! However...

For the last three years Saddle Mountain Park has been grossly mismanaged: Closed for most of the time! First it was "THE" COOF - and the State Managers didn't want people staying healthy by being outdoors where viruses do not do well in the open air and sunlight. Score one for the Sciencephobes! Then it was downed trees... which are the usual suspects behind closures in this area. For the last year or so it has been rumored because of a landslide. As of this posting it is still closed as it has been for the last year or so straight with intermittent openings during the previous two years before that. Hopefully the Park will be opened up and this done sooner than later. It is the sadly neglected gem of State Parks in Oregon.
