Rangers face a huge summer dilemma over striker Kemar Roofe after Michael Beale claimed the striker is nursing yet another injury knock.

The Jamaican international poacher, 30, is amongst the highest-profile and most talented players in the Scottish game but Rangers fans have gotten used to extensive absences for the striker.
Only just returning to the Ibrox fold, with Kemar Roofe scoring in the weekend’s 3-0 win over Livingston, the striker has been limited to six appearances this season with all of them from the bench.

But Michael Beale has Rangers fans once again tearing their hair out as the Ibrox manager confirms the potent forward is now an injury doubt for the League Cup Final with Celtic.

That’s even if Beale didn’t rule the forward out.

“Kemar Roofe had a slight issue after the weekend unfortunately so we won’t be too far away from the team that played last weekend,” said Beale

“It wasn’t a dress rehearsal, but there could be one or two more that declare themselves fit. But I need to make sure they are because it’s important there’s not a bravado around it, that they genuinely are fit.”

Whilst there is sympathy for the likeable Kemar Roofe, Rangers have had something of an ongoing injury crisis all season long and it quite simply will not be tolerated going into the next campaign.

If the Rangers squad remains full of crocks beyond the summer window then on Michael Beale and Ross Wilson’s head it will be with fan scrutiny on the Ibrox sporting director intensifying over the last few windows.

The issue with Kemar Roofe constantly carrying an injury isn’t just a problem in terms of the striker not being available, but Roofe occupies an important and expensive role in the squad and at the moment is not justifying his place.

This means Rangers need to decide if they will move the striker on in the summer and sign someone else, even at a lower level of ability, who will actually be regularly available to play.

A lack of forward options has cost the club big this season, with the extent of this latest injury to Kemar Roofe potentially set to be the last straw in his Ibrox career for many.

A talented footballer and excellent striker, it makes no difference if Kemar Roofe isn’t playing and his routine absences are having an impact.

It’s time for Kemar Roofe to prove his fitness and if he can’t do so between now and the end of the campaign plenty will be calling for a change of direction for everyone involved.
